About Me

I have spent many years working with families and their children in a variety of different settings. Prior to becoming a doula and massage therapist my time and energy was given to the field of early childhood education. I retired from this field after 15 years of service. My desire to work with birthing couples was born out of my own birth experiences. I gave birth back in the 70's and early 80's. The climate of birth has changed since then; mostly it has improved. I intuitively knew what was missing from my births. I needed a woman there with me, holding my hand, a woman who had gone before me in birth, just letting me know I was ok, that I could do this. My husband was doing what he did best, being by my side in a loving and supportive way. Attending the same childbirth preparation classes as I had, he was now presumed to be the expert on childbirth. This proved to be an unrealistic expectation. It would have been great for him to have support as well, so he did not feel 100% responsible for my well being at this time. Thirty one years have passed since my first birth experience. I began attending births as a professional doula in 1999. I have attended over 200 births.
